Maize South Middle School Bands

Grant Whitcomb, Instructor

Maize South band students meet daily to rehearse and develop their playing skills as we prepare exciting and challenging new music. The 7th and 8th Grade Band program is very active at Maize South, and students will have the opportunity to perform at concerts, spirit assemblies, parades and festivals.

Each fall we march in the Maize Fall Festival and The Colwich Heritage Day parades. Students have the opportunity to perform solos at the Pioneer League Music Festival, where the band has a strong tradition of Superior ratings! We perform at the Worlds of Fun Festival of Bands each spring in Kansas City, Missouri. Past performances also include KU Band Day and the Arkalala Festival in Arkansas City, Kansas.

Jazz Band students have additional performance activities. Past performances have included: the KU Jazz Festival, the KSU Jazz Festival, the Hutchinson Community Jazz Festival, the Pittsburg State University Jazz Festival and the Friends University Jazz Festival.

Our goal is to prepare each student for even greater opportunities in high school with the outstanding high school band and to instill in each student a lifelong love of music.
